Accutane (Isotretinoin)

THE USE OF THE MEDICINE

Accutane is used to treat severe acne rashes in patients who do not help other medications. It can also be used for other symptoms to a doctor.

HOW TO USE

Take Accutane two times a day with meals unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Swallow the capsule. Do not suck or chew. Take with a full glass of water, milk or other nonalcoholic liquid. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Depending on your reaction to Accutane, your doctor may need to adjust the dosage upward or downward. If your condition is improving rapidly, your doctor may stop giving you Accutane even after 15 or 20 weeks.

After completion of receiving Accutane should not be less than 2 months 'rest period' during which you do not take this medication. This is because acne can gradually disappear, even if you stop taking the medicine. After 2 months, if your rash is still severe, your doctor may prescribe a second course of Accutane. If you are still growing, your doctor may recommend a longer "rest period".

Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages.

THE MECHANISM OF MEDICINE

Accutane is a retinoid. It works by reducing sebum production, changes in the characteristics of sebum and prevent abnormal stiffness of the skin.

MISSED DOSE

If you miss a dose of Accutane, take it to as soon as possible. If the time has come almost to the next dose, skip the missed reception and return to your normal schedule the reception. Do not take 2 doses at once.

STORAGE

PRECAUTIONS MEASURES

  • Tell your doctor if you are planning to engage in vigorous physical activity (sports) during treatment with Accutane.
  • Sexually active women of childbearing age must use 2 effective forms of birth control, not less than 1 month before treatment, during treatment and within 1 month after stopping the medication. Your doctor should test for pregnancy on a monthly basis while you are taking Accutane.
  • Some contraceptive pills that do not contain estrogen may not be effective while taking Accutane.

SIDE EFFECTS

Consult your doctor if any of these most common side effects do not pass or become worse:

  • irregular hair growth, abnormal sensations of the skin, bleeding and redness or swelling of the gums, changes in menses, chapped lips, decreased tolerance to contact lenses, dizziness, dry mouth and eyes, dry nose that may lead to nosebleeds, dry or scaly skin, fatigue, flushing, general discomfort of the body, thinning hair, headaches, itching, lack of energy, nervousness, respiratory tract infections, insomnia, sweating, temporary worsening of acne, voice changes.

Call your doctor  immediately if there is any of these serious side effects:

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bizarre, aggressive or violent acts; pain in the gut, or banging pain in the chest, dark urine, depression, difficult or painful swallowing, difficulty in movement, excessive thirst or urination, fainting, fast heartbeat, fever, weakness, or fracture of bones, hearing or ringing in the ears, increasing the pressure in the brain (pressure in the eye, nausea, vision changes, vomiting), pain in joint or back pain, leg swelling, muscle weakness with or without pain, nausea, heartburn, or its exacerbation, rectal bleeding, red spots or bruises on the legs, shortness of breath, convulsions, severe birth defects, severe diarrhea, severe headache, skin infections , slurred speech, abdominal pain or tenderness, stroke, stunted growth in children and sensitivity to the sun, swelling of the pancreas (fever, increased heart rate, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting), swollen glands, thoughts of suicide, tightness in the lungs, changes in vision, vomiting, weakness, yellowing of the skin or eyes.
